He shows the emotions of the soldiers throughout the story, and you can understand what they are going through by reading his book. It is clear on how the characters change throughout the story. I would recommend All Quiet on the Western Front to anyone who enjoys the war. Although I cannot relate to the soldiers because I have not been in a life or death situation, Remarque creates a feeling as though you are there. You really get to understand, know the characters, and their change is evident. You can clearly see how the characters change because of the war, and what the war forces them to do. The war turns them into “animals”, and they react on instinct so they can survive.
